#SurviveAndThrive – Supporting Small Businesses

By Jen Heil | March 25, 2020

As we navigate this strange new Covid-19 world, we want to do what we can to support individuals and businesses to #SurviveAndThrive. In this blog, we’re sharing advice, resources and useful links illustrating ways to support small businesses.

As our economy falters, small businesses will be hit hardest and fastest by the ongoing situation with Covid-19 but there are some things you can do to help out.

  • Shop small, shop local – many small, independent stores are providing delivery services to help you get what you need so, before you head to the website of your nearest big supermarket and try desperately to see if they’ve got a delivery slot in the next month, why not see what local shops are offering? You might even find it easier to get hold of some things through small businesses.
  • Keep shopping if you can – beyond buying the essentials, if you are in a stable financial position and can afford to, consider buying non-essential goods from independent stores. Shop Instagram sales, buy gift cards to use later, get in early with birthday and Christmas shopping.
  • Help give independent brands a boost with marketing – for small businesses, word of mouth is like air and helps keep them alive. Share your favourite independent brands on social media, leave reviews on Google, Yelp or whichever platforms are available. Share pictures and posts showing off your favourite products from indie stores. Let’s help these small businesses and the hardworking people behind them keep going however we can.
  • Look out for local opportunities & share – in our local area, The Manc Group have said they want to help promote local businesses during this trying time – business owners just need to get in touch using the email provided. Keep an eye out for opportunities that might help small businesses and share them far and wide – even if you’re not aware of having any small business owners directly in your networks, you never know who might see something helpful they otherwise would have missed.

The Government has also issued guidance on what support is available to small businesses, including grants and loans, rates holidays and sick pay support packages.

Small businesses can also take advantage of this generous offer from Hootsuite, with free access to their social media management software until 1st June 2020.

To businesses big and small, whatever your sector, we are working on offering heavily discounted PR and marketing services during this time. When a crisis hits, communication and maintaining a positive brand presence is more important than ever and we want to help. Watch this space for updates or get in touch if there’s anything specific you need and we’ll see what we can do!
